Goed doel in Kenia: Aswani

Vandaag gebeld met mijn Keniaanse vriendin Judith, de moeder van Dorcas en Javan, wonend in Lugari (West-Kenia).

De eigenaar van de St. Jolien Academy is niet van plan om de plek van de hand te doen aan Dorcas. Ze gaan nu kijken naar een plek dichter bij de grote weg, misschien dat ze daar een stuk grond kunnen kopen en een gebouw neer kunnen zetten. Dan kan de school daar in het nieuwe schooljaar verder.

Klas 4 van mijn zoon Rob heeft in februari prachtige tekeningen gemaakt voor de school in Kenia. Laatst viel er een grote bruine enveloppe in mijn bus met de tekeningen van de Keniaanse kinderen voor de Nederlandse klas. Vandaag ben ik ze wezen brengen en heb de kinderen ook een film laten zien van mijn ontvangst in Kenia.

De kinderen in Nederland vonden de Keniaanse tekeningen prachtig!!

Op 24 april schrijft Judith(moeder van Dorcas, het schoolhoofd)  in een brief aan mij:

Dorcas is opgenomen in het ziekenhuis in Kitale. Ze is woensdagnacht aan haar maag geopereerd en wordt morgen ontslagen. De rekening voor de opname is opgelopen tot 50.000 Keniaanse shilling (500 euro).

Op 6 april ontvangen we dit bericht van Dorcas:

Hey Jolien,
I hope you fine with your family. I was so grateful to hear that you received the parcel. Otherwise the teachers were very much happy for your visit. Mum talked with the old man (owner of the schoolbuilding) and he said he is going to communicate with the family first (about sharing the ownership or takeover). So we are waiting for the answer but everything is ok.
Myself i am still unwell that is am suffering from malaria and typhoid, i was tested and all were positive. So today am going to see the Doctor cos am not seeing any improvement. But school, i’ve reported today and given one week for treatment so next week i’ll be in class full-time. I’ve managed to pay the registration fee and the stationery fee Kshs 3000, but i know other amount God is going to do something.
